There were many things that happened last season and too many things one cannot simply ignore. Especially the last performances of FC St. Pauli, the sacking of the coach Uli Maslo and the embarrassing search for his successor, the negotiations with players and - at last - the relegation were main points of the discussion on our club. Hendrik, member of "Der Übersteiger", wrote down his own point of view about the current situation.

"Everything changes ... but you???"

In normal cases relegation sounds, in a way like "it's all over" or "rien ne va plus". But when using the word "relegation" as an expression of football, it means that every cloud has its silver line. "Let's do it again" so to speak. This is exactly the opinion of all "important persons" dedicated to FC St. Pauli, and so they're already thinking of the immediate re-promotion (i. e. winning the 2nd division) next year instead of thinking of this challenge and the tours to the diaspora where teams such as Unterhaching, Uerdingen, Gütersloh or Cottbus are waiting for us. Let's have them their optimism! But me, personally, I cannot share this point of view. When reading the newspapers, my view becomes quite sinister.

Let's face the facts: The cadre of this team has been existing for 4 years. In the 1st year of his existence, the team failed in promoting and in the 2nd year, they made it. One year later, they stayed in 1st Bundesliga and another year later, they relegated again. You can see that this cadre of the team has been through a lot, so now, it would actually be the time for a new start, wouldn't it?

But no! It seems that exactly the players who didn't prove their competence for playing in the German premier league shall win the 2nd league next year and, after that, shall have another try. Here at FC St. Pauli it seems that the management is afraid of trying a complete new start ... and that takes the biscuit. I don't want to attack the players as individuals, but it must be allowed to have a word on their sportive qualities: I'm sick and tired of players like Stefan Hanke, Thomas Sobotzik or Christian Springer who play crap except for 3 games in autumn: Why do we need a player like Tore Pedersen who didn't prove that he's worth the lots of money the club transfers on his account. And when Bernd Eigner says he wants to go - o. k., let him do so...

Being completely honest, I'm sick and tired of the majority of players because you lose faith in the team when thinking the crucial games against Freiburg, Düsseldorf or Rostock where our team gained unqualified success. The way of having lost these games was purely outrageous! Me personally, I'd rather say that everybody should go. But that doesn't work because it's no solution of the problem.

How can the new start look like? Well, let's keep experienced players like Klaus Thomforde, Dirk Damman, André Trulsen, Carsten Pröpper and, in a way, Holger Stanislawski. Then, at youngsters like Matthias Scherz, Demir Duric and some newcomers of the same age. Why shouldn't we try to go the way like Ajax Amsterdam does, i. e. take young players and train them in one and the same position right from the start? That's at least something one can base on, no matter if it takes two years or more to win promotion to the German Premier League. But again no! Now, they are already talking about Fritz Walter, the player of Arminia Bielefeld who is about 35 years old. Where's the look into the future? I ask you! Just a word about our goal keeper: Well, Klaus Thomforde, called "the animal" has been our most popular player for 4 years, but one should not forget that he's already older than 30 years. Of course, he's a good goalie, but indeed, he's not one of the best ones in Germany. What we need is a good goalie on the bench and maybe the club realises that Carsten Wehlmann can be the successor of "the animal".

But a look into the future also means work with the youngsters. So we hope for a coach with a conception for the future. (Our new coach, Eckardt Krautzun, has already engaged two younger players: Cem, Caraca of FC Kaiserslautern and Michael Mason of HSV amateur team).

Well, that was just wishful thinking since the mentioned players Hanke, Sobotzik and Springer have already signed new contracts. But if they had the time of their life next season???

I love surprises!!
