| "Don't leave me this way..." ...was about 12 years ago a top hit by Jimmy Sommerville. In a figurative sense, we could also say that the 1st Bundesliga would sing the same song to our FC St. Pauli. Sad but true, our favourite team finished this season at the bottom of the league and his record looks really depressing:
The circumstances that led to our club's relegation have, of course, caused some discussions among our readers and writers. Therefore, we call this Übersteiger issue the "issue of retaliation". But we don't only want to get even with the team and the management. When listening to the fans who sometimes have very hot discussions with one another, one gets the idea that also the fan-scene is likely to face large-scale changes. More about these topics later on these web-pages. Well, with this season in mind, one could suppose us to be supporters of losers, because almost every team we sympathise for haven't achieved their goals: FC St. Pauli and the club's amateur team relegated; Celtic FC, who couldn't avoid Rangers ninth-in-a-row and lost the Scottish Cup semi-final; Cliftonville, who almost relegated and lost his cup final; Atlético Bilbao, who didn't qualify for Europe etc, etc...OK, Derry City won the League of Ireland but that's not a real consolation for us. Some weeks ago, we learned that the protests of Brighton & Hove Albion supporters enjoy a great international solidarity. They could achieve some good success so now the club can look into the future in a more optimistic way. Congratulations! The reader can expect "Übersteiger" No 28 to be issued for beginning of August. Enjoy your holidays! Yours Der ÜbersteigerPS: From this issur onwards, we'd like to offer extracts from "Der Übersteiger" in English. These articles translated into English are available approx. 2 or 3 weeks after any ÜS-issue published. Maybe, the translations won't be perfect because the translators don't speak English as their mother tongue. In case of publishing translations with mistakes, we'd like to beg your pardon in advance. |
